The creators of the animated film series Frozen have announced the release date for their third installment. The film is set to premiere on November 24, 2027, around Thanksgiving. Coincidentally, its first two episodes premiered around Thanksgiving and became a huge box office hit, grossing over $1 billion. Earlier, filmmaker Jennifer Lee unveiled early concept art for Frozen 3, featuring its iconic characters Anna and Elsa.

The first installment of the franchise was released in 2013 and its plot was inspired by Hans Christian Anderson’s 1844 fairy tale The Snow Queen. The film garnered mostly positive responses and grossed nearly $1.3 billion worldwide and also won several awards, including two Oscars.

Its sequel came in 2019, which was also a commercial success and grossed more than its predecessor. Both films revolve around royal sisters Anna and Elsa (voiced by Kristen Bell and Idina Menzel). The series has also yielded some of the most popular hits, such as ‘Let It Go’ and ‘Do You Want To Build A Snowman?’

In 2023, Disney CEO Bob Iger revealed that the studio is already working on the fourth installment of Frozen. Veteran songwriters Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez will return to write new songs for the next two films.

“We’re working on Frozen 3, and there may be a Frozen 4 as well,” she said last year, “but I don’t have much to say about those movies right now. [Director] Jenn Lee, creator of the original Frozen and Frozen 2, is hard at work with her team at Disney Animation on not one but two stories,” Variety reported.
