MakeMyTrip partners with Ministry of Tourism to invite Indian diaspora to rediscover their homeland

On the eve of India’s 78th Independence Day, MakeMyTrip in collaboration with the Ministry of Tourism has launched a special campaign to encourage the Indian diaspora to revisit and reconnect with their homeland. The initiative, titled ‘India: Coming Home’, aims to invite Indians around the world to rediscover The beauty, culture and transformation of his homeland.

The campaign is centred around an evocative online film, created by legendary poet and lyricist Gulzar Saab. His heartfelt words, ” “” (kitna hua hai inn dino badlav toh dekho, tum apne ghar mein laut kar aao toh dekho)to encourage the global Indian community to return and witness the changes in their homeland.

Highlighting the importance of this initiative, Minister for Tourism and Culture Gajendra Singh Shekhawat said, “In our efforts to enable the Indian diaspora to become ambassadors of Incredible India through the Chalo India initiative, the call to encourage the Indian diaspora to rediscover their homeland and experience a transformed India is paramount. This Independence Day, we call upon the Indian diaspora across the world to take a journey back home and experience Incredible India in all its richness, not just for themselves but for all those for whom Incredible India awaits.”

This campaign builds on MakeMyTrip’s recent global expansion, enabling travellers across the world to interact with its platform seamlessly. It also builds on last year’s successful Independence Day initiative, ‘The Traveller’s Map of India’, which promoted domestic tourism by showcasing over 600 hidden tourist destinations across the country.

By highlighting the progress, beauty, diversity and rich heritage, we aim to inspire a sense of pride and nostalgia, encouraging the global community to visit and explore the nation. MakeMyTrip recently reported that it recorded its highest-ever booking volume and gross revenue in the first quarter of fiscal year 2025. The company’s earnings in the first quarter of fiscal year 2025 amounted to $21 million, up from $18.6 million in the same quarter of the previous year.

Revenue grew 31.4% year-over-year to $254.5 million, with gross bookings reaching $2.38 billion, representing year-over-year growth of 21.6% in constant currency.
