Spotify to add pricing information to its app on Apple devices in Europe

Spotify will update its app on Apple devices in the European Union on Wednesday to include prices for its various plans and services, more than three months after the iPhone maker rejected such a move.

That rejection was due to Spotify not agreeing to Apple’s recently introduced terms for access to music streaming services that govern how music streaming apps in the European Economic Area inform users about other ways to make purchases.

The Swedish audio streaming company said that while it now agrees to those terms, Your iOS app will not give users an external link to make purchases since it does not want to pay Apple a commission for such transactions.

Apple had said that agreeing to its music streaming terms did not require an external link for payments.

“While this is a step forward, it’s just a small step on the long road to giving iPhone consumers the core product experiences they expect and deserve in their apps,” Spotify said in a statement.

Apple made it easier for music streaming apps to communicate with iOS device users in the EU in early April, a month after Brussels imposes a fine of 1.84 billion euros (2 billion dollars) for hindering competition from music streaming rivals through restrictions on its App Store.

Apple did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Reuters.
