New Delhi: In preparation for the 78th Independence Day celebrations, the Delhi Traffic Police has announced extensive road closures and alternative routes for commuters on Thursday, August 15. These measures are aimed at managing the anticipated high traffic volumes and ensuring the smooth conduct of the celebrations.

Road closures:

Several major roads in central Delhi will remain closed between 4:00 am and 10:00 am. The affected roads are:

– Netaji Subhash Marg (Delhi Gate to Chatta Rail)

– Lothian Road (GPO to Chatta railway)

– SP Mukherjee Marg (HC Sen Marg to Yamuna Bazar Chowk)

– Chandni Chowk Road (from Fountain Chowk to Red Fort)

– Nishad Raj Marg (bypass road to Netaji Subhash Marg)

– Esplanade Road and its link road (to Netaji Subhash Marg)

– Ring Road (from Rajghat to ISBT)

– Outer Ring Road (ISBT to IP Flyover, Salimgarh Bypass)

Additionally, both the Old Iron Bridge and the Geeta Colony Bridge will remain closed.

Routes to avoid:

Vehicles without a parking permit must avoid the following routes:

– Hexagon shaped India Gate C

– Copernicus Marg

– Mandi House

– Sikandra Highway

– Point W

– A Tilak Marg point

– Mathura Highway

– BSZ Marg

– Netaji Subhash Marg

-Marg J.L. Nehru

– Ring Road (Nizamuddin Khatta to ISBT Kashmiri Gate)

– Outer Ring Road (Nizamuddin Khatta to ISBT Kashmiri Gate via Salimgarh Bypass)

Suggested alternative routes:

For trips from north to south: Use Aurobindo Marg, Safdarjung Road, Kamal Ataturk Marg, Kautilya Marg, SPM Marg, 11 Murti, Mother Teresa Crescent, Park Street, Mandir Marg, Panchkuian Road and Rani Jhansi Road.

To travel from East to West: Opt for NH-24, Nizamuddin Khatta, Barapula Road (under AIIMS flyover), Ring Road, Mathura Road, Subramania Bharti Marg, Rajesh Pilot Marg, Prithviraj Road and Safdarjung Road.

Bus notice:

Local city buses, including those operated by the Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC), will face restrictions on Ring Road from midnight on Tuesday to 11 a.m. The affected stretch will be between ISBT Kashmiri Gate and NH-24, including the NH T-point at Nizamuddin Khatta.

– Buses coming from Ghaziabad will have to divert via Bhopura Chungi Road and Wazirabad Road, then towards Chandgi Ram Akhara and ISBT.

– Dhaulakuan buses will be rerouted via Ring Road to Punjabi Bagh, Azad Pur, Akhara Chandgi Ram and ISBT.

– Buses operating between ISBT and Faridabad (Badarpur) will terminate at Sarai Kale Khan or follow an alternative route via Dhaulakuan, Punjabi Bagh, Azad Pur, Akhara Chandgi Ram and ISBT.

– Buses heading towards Loni border should use Wazirabad Bridge, and those heading towards Ghaziabad should use ISBT Bridge.

– Services terminating at the Red Fort, Jama Masjid and Delhi’s main railway station will be cut or diverted.

Buses will not be allowed to make U-turns on the northern stretch of Ring Road near Budh Vihar and will be diverted via Wazirabad or Chandgi Ram Akhara.

Normal bus services are expected to resume after 11am.
