Those committing crime against women should be harshly punished, says PM

Snipers, elite SWAT commandos, kite hunters and marksmen will be positioned at strategic locations for the security of the prime minister and other VIP guests, a senior officer said.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi hoisted the national flag at the Red Fort in the national capital for the 11th consecutive year. He spoke on a range of issues – natural disasters, crimes against women, reforms by his government, among others. He also laid out his vision of ‘Vikshit Bharat’ by 2047, catering to different sections of society.

More than 10,000 police personnel and 3,000 traffic police officers have been deployed in the city. Snipers, elite SWAT commandos, kite hunters and sharpshooters will be placed at strategic locations for the security of the prime minister and other VIP guests, a senior officer said.

In addition, 700 CCTV cameras with AI-based facial recognition have been installed in the city centre and in New Delhi. These cameras have high-resolution pan, tilt and zoom capabilities, which can identify a person from a distance, officials said.

All the national capital’s Haryana-Delhi and Uttar Pradesh-Delhi borders were sealed after 11.30 pm on Wednesday for inbound heavy commercial vehicle movements.
