Will fully cooperate with CBI in investigation: Chief Minister

Correspondent, Calcutta

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday welcomed the Calcutta High Court’s order to hand over the investigation into the rape and murder case of a junior doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital to the CBI. The Chief Minister said at a programme organised in Behala on Wednesday evening that we will follow the High Court’s order and fully cooperate with the CBI. We have no problem with the case being handed over to the CBI (Central Bureau of Investigation), because we want this matter to be resolved at the earliest. The Chief Minister said that the Kolkata police has also handed over all the information and documents related to the case to the CBI.

The Chief Minister accused the opposition CPI(M) and BJP of politicising the incident and trying to instigate protests in the state like the student movement in Bangladesh. The Chief Minister said that the CPI(M) and BJP are trying to organise protests similar to those in Bangladesh to seize power in Bengal. The Chief Minister said that this protest is being held solely for political gains. At the programme organised by the party on the eve of Independence Day, the Chief Minister said that our government has taken all possible steps in this matter but still a malicious campaign is continuing. He said that you can abuse me as much as you like but please don’t abuse the state. Don’t defame Bengal. Because if there is an attempt to defame Bengal, we will give a befitting reply.
