A Ludhiana man claims money was deducted from his FASTag while he was “relaxing at home”.

FASTag While he was “chilling at home”, Sunderdeep Singh, CEO of Prinspire Technologies, shared a screenshot of the text message he received, which showed that Rs 220 had been deducted from his account at a toll plaza in Punjab. FASTag is an electronic toll collection system that uses radio frequency identification (RFID) technology to make toll payments directly from a prepaid or savings account linked to it or directly from the vehicle owner’s account.
Singh alleged that money was deducted from his account even though he had not crossed the toll booth. “They are deducting money from me when I am resting at home and I have not even travelled on that route this month. What is going on?” the Ludhiana-based managing director of X asked.
Singh shared the screenshot and sought an explanation from the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) on the deduction. Several people expressed similar views and highlighted the limitations of relying solely on this technology.
“This has been happening to us for the last year. Another car is using our number plate. All their fines and FASTag deductions are directed at us. After countless visits to the police station and bank branch, we have started treating it as a separate household expense,” wrote user X Sidharth Gupta.
Singh’s post quickly went viral, garnering more than half a million views.
FASTag NETC has responded to Sunderdeep Singh and urged him to report the incorrect deduction to his bank.
“Hi, please contact the issuing bank’s customer service to report the issue of incorrect deduction. They will review your complaint and generate a chargeback for the incorrectly deducted fee based on its merits. Thank you,” the account replied.
