‘Let us punish them with all severity’: Mithali Raj speaks out on horrific rape and murder case in Kolkata

The entire nation is in shock over the tragic rape and murder of the junior doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata. Civic volunteer Sanjay Roy is the prime accused and is also a repeat offender with a history of violence against women. Recently, Roy’s wife also revealed that she had tried to lodge a complaint against him as he had assaulted her several times, but her efforts went in vain.

The horrific incident has sparked protests across the country, with people demanding death penalty for the main accused Roy. Thousands of people in West Bengal and across the country have expressed their anger in response to the brutal rape and murder of a doctor on duty at a Kolkata hospital last week. Former Indian women’s cricket team player Mithali Raj has come forward and expressed her frustration over the horrific incident.

As reported by ANI earlier, the operation theatre services at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) have been reduced by 85 per cent and the admission at the institute has dropped by 65 per cent following the doctors’ strike. The CBI also conducted a seven-hour probe at the RG Kar Medical College.

Crimes against women must be investigated swiftly, says PM Modi

Prime minister Narendra Modi On Thursday, she said state governments should act on crimes against women with “utmost urgency” and called for instilling deterrence among perpetrators; her comments came in the backdrop of the alleged rape and murder of a junior doctor in Kolkata.
