The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Saturday took a jibe at the Congress-led Karnataka government over Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot’s order on MUDA Scamsaying the Chief Minister Siddaramaiah He must resign and allow an impartial investigation.
Calling it the “most corrupt government in the history of India”, BJP spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla said: “…they have made loot and lies their main agenda and have probably looted every department of the government.”
“The MUDA scam refers to a scam of ₹“5,000 crore, where prime land plots were given and handed over to the Prime Minister’s wife, friends and allies of the Prime Minister and the Prime Minister did not even disclose it in his affidavit… The CM must resign and allow an impartial inquiry…” he said.
BJP MP Tejasvi Surya said the allegations against Siddaramaiah are “so serious” that the Karnataka government has appointed a one-man inquiry commission to investigate.
“The BJP and many activists have been fighting for transparency and probity in public life, and have been raising the issue of irregularities and illegalities in allotment of compensatory seats to the CM’s wife Parvati,” the BJP MP said.
“… Later, the CM and the Karnataka government appointed another commission to investigate these allegations… Now, the Congress is arguing that the Governor’s action in sanctioning the prosecution is politically tainted, which is not correct…” Surya added.
karnataka Governor Gehlot has granted sanction for the prosecution of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah in connection with the Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA) site allotment scam.
On July 26, Gehlot had issued a “show cause notice” directing the Chief Minister to file his reply to the allegations against him within seven days, explaining why permission for the prosecution should not be granted.
On August 1, the Karnataka government had “strongly advised” the Governor to withdraw his “submission notice” to the Chief Minister and alleged “gross misuse of the Constitutional Office” by the Governor.
“We held a cabinet meeting and demanded that the governor revoke the decision. We also told him that the complaint is baseless and that democracy must be saved by dismissing the complaint,” the deputy chief minister said. DK Shivakumar.
The case relates to the MUDA scam, in which Siddaramaiah’s wife was allegedly given alternative plots in an upmarket area in exchange for the alleged illegal acquisition of three acres and 16 guntas of agricultural land in Kesarur in Mysuru. Siddaramaiah has strongly denied these allegations, calling them baseless.
