India’s ancient knowledge and philosophy can be the guiding light towards a developed nation, industry body Assocham’s secretary general Deepak Sood said.

Speaking at the special launch event of a book on Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday evening, he said that the growth and advancements that India has witnessed in the last few years are a result of the leadership that the country has, and this book has shown us how much progress we have made towards our goal.

“We are fortunate to have ancient knowledge and philosophy that can be our guiding light to a developed nation,” he said.

Authored by former Rhodes Professor of Cornell University, US, and currently HR Fellow, Capacity Building Commission, R Balasubramaniam, the book titled ‘Power Within: The Leadership Legacy of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’, captures the wisdom of the civilisation of Bharat.

It also explores how Modi’s remarkable vision for accelerating progress, as well as indigenous knowledge and ancient wisdom, have shaped global leadership today.

The book was launched by Tata Group Chairman N Chandrasekaran at a ceremony held here which was also attended by eminent personalities including Ashish Kumar Chauhan, MD & CEO, National Stock Exchange, Swati Piramal, Vice Chairman, Piramal Group, Adil Zainulbhai, Chairman, Skill Building Commission, and spiritual leader Gaurang Das Prabhu, among others.

Calling the book “wonderful and very unique” for many reasons, Chandrasekaran said the book on PM Modi celebrates Indian wisdom on leadership.

“When there is so much Indian philosophy and wisdom, I don’t think we will go to any of them. Many times they talk about other philosophies, and there is nothing wrong with that. But at the same time, there is a lot here that we need to learn and appreciate,” he said.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is undoubtedly one of the most globally respected and celebrated leaders of our times, he said.

The book offers an inspiring look at the Prime Minister’s leadership journey, embodying the spirit of Viksit Bharat and Amrit Kaal, Chauhan said.

“The book contrasts trait-oriented Western leadership with practice-focused Indian leadership, showcasing their tireless work ethic, communicative approach and quest for self-discovery in service to others, while providing a roadmap for aspiring public servants,” he said.

Balasubramaniam said his latest book is the result of hard work by several people.

“I want to thank all of them, my excellent team of researchers and everyone who helped me turn the manuscript into a book,” he said.

“One of the best pieces of advice I’ve ever received as an activist is to break the government, but never break it, because then you create a vacuum that no one can fill,” he said, adding that “…we need a stable, structured system to solve the complex problems, the wicked problems of the world. The world is a mess today, a mess of our own making, and so the answers have to come from us.”
