National Conference leader Omar Abdullah said that the party will pass a resolution against the Centre’s decision to abolish Article 370 in its first decision after the assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir.

Former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah said that after the assembly elections, the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly will pass a resolution against the central government’s decision to strip the region of statehood and special status as its first task.

Let us tell you that this statement of Omar Abdullah has come after the Election Commission of India announced elections in Jammu and Kashmir in three phases. Voting will be held in Jammu and Kashmir on 18, 25 September and 1 October, while the counting of votes will be done on 4 October. The last assembly elections in the valley were held in November-December 2014. Jammu and Kashmir is under President’s rule since 19 December 2018.

After the announcement of assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir, Omar Abdullah had said that he would not participate in the elections until the state status of Jammu and Kashmir is restored, while his father and National Conference (NC) chief Farooq Abdullah will lead the party in the upcoming elections.

Farooq Abdullah, expressing hope for the end of the rule of the central government in the Union Territory, had said that I thank God for this decision. He said that we were ready for the parliamentary elections and we had requested that the assembly elections should also be held at the same time, but this did not happen.

Meanwhile, many political parties of Jammu and Kashmir including Congress, BJP, CPI(M) and Democratic Progressive Azad Party praised the Election Commission’s announcement to hold assembly elections.

All India Congress Committee General Secretary GA Mir praised the Election Commission’s decision and said that it reflects the public’s aspirations for a popular government. Mir said that people are eagerly waiting for the formation of a popular government and the announcement of elections reflects the aspirations of the people. We are confident that the people of Jammu and Kashmir will participate in the elections in large numbers.

Iltija Mufti, prominent leader of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and daughter of former Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti, also welcomed the Election Commission’s announcement. Iltija said that the PDP welcomes the election announcement.
