“I was not expecting the award,” said Rishab. “Many people thought the award was mine, but I didn’t fully believe it until the jury announced the results. My wife was the first to congratulate me. The jury appreciated Kantara and I am grateful for their recognition.”

Days before the National Award results were announced, Rishab Shetty and Mammootty were rumoured to be contenders for the National Award. However, it was later claimed that the jury had snubbed the Malaysian actor, leading to widespread criticism on social media. There was a lot of speculation and protests after the announcement on Friday.
However, MB Padmakumar, director and jury member of the National Film Awards, opened up about Mammootty not winning the Best Actor award for his performance in the 2022 film Nanpakal Nerathu Mayakkam, in a recent interview with Onmanorama. “People are quick to blame the government, but the fact is that Mammootty’s films just didn’t come up. We have to ask ourselves who made this decision. I was part of the jury and I can say with certainty that there was no outside influence. If there was any interference, it didn’t come from the government,” he said.
