The judge says Google Preparing for the App Store restructuring
A US judge has indicated he will order major changes to Google’s Android app store to punish the company for designing a system that has been declared an illegal monopoly that harms millions of consumers and app developers.
Judge James Donato made clear that the restructuring will likely include an injunction requiring Google’s Play Store to offer consumers the option of downloading alternative app stores.

In response, Google said that downloading software from third-party app stores can lead to “security chaos.” But Donato repeatedly stressed the need for a major overhaul of the Play Store, even if it causes headaches for Google and huge bills that the company has estimated could reach $600 million, depending on what the judge orders. Donato said he expects to issue an order outlining the framework for the changes in the coming weeks.
US lawmakers push Goal on illicit drug advertisements
Members of the US Congress asked Meta boss Mark Zuckerberg to give them details about ads for opioids and other illicit drugs on its platforms, Facebook and Instagram.
A letter signed by 19 lawmakers said: “It appears that Meta has continued to shirk its social responsibility and defy its own community standards. What is particularly outrageous in this case is that this was not user-generated content on the dark web or private social networks, but advertisements approved and monetized by Meta.”
Questions included how many such ads Meta has run on its platforms, what it has done about them, and whether viewers were targeted by such ads based on their personal health information.
They asked Zuckerberg for answers before September 6.
“Our systems are designed to detect and proactively take action against infringing content, and we reject hundreds of thousands of ads for violating our drug policies,” a Meta spokesperson said.
Soft bank Plan for joining remains with Intel For French fries
Japanese investor SoftBank reportedly abandoned plans to produce an artificial intelligence chip with Intel to compete with Nvidia.
The partnership failed to materialize after the U.S. chipmaker struggled to meet SoftBank’s requirements, according to reports citing people familiar with the matter.
SoftBank has blamed Intel for the collapse of the talks, claiming it was unable to meet its volume and speed demands, according to a report, adding that SoftBank is now focusing on discussions with Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co (TSMC), the world’s largest contract chipmaker.
