Bombay: A recent survey by Matrize sheds light on public perceptions about the potential impact of ‘Ladli Behna Yojana‘ in it Indian People’s Party (BJP)The scheme, introduced in the Maharashtra budget in late June, aims to provide substantial financial assistance to underprivileged women, with the aim of garnering political support ahead of the Assembly elections due later this year.
Under the ‘Mukhya Mantri Majhi Ladki Bahin Yojana‘, also known as ‘Ladli Behna Yojana’, eligible women between the ages of 21 and 65 will receive a monthly stipend of Rs 1,500 from the state government. The initiative is expected to cost the state exchequer approximately Rs 46,000 crore annually. This ambitious scheme is seen as a strategic move by the ruling party to bolster its electoral prospects by addressing the needs of a significant demographic – women from economically disadvantaged backgrounds.
- Very beneficial: 55% of respondents believe that the scheme will be highly advantageous for the BJP and could sway voters in its favour.
- Up to a point: 21% think that while the plan may have some positive impact, it will not be a decisive factor in the polls.
- No benefit: 10% of respondents believe that the ‘Ladli Behna Yojana’ will not have a substantial impact on the electoral fortunes of the BJP.
- I can’t say: 8% are unsure of the effect the plan will have on the party’s chances.
- A campaign speech: 6% consider the plan to be fundamentally a political strategy rather than a genuine welfare measure.
