KEY POINTS
- In a recent interview with The New Indian’s Rohan Dua, Manu Bhaker was asked if he had chemistry with Neeraj Chopra.
- Dua admitted it was “trivial and awkward” but went on to ask more questions unrelated to her shooting career.
- The shooter won two bronze medals and was close to winning a third at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
The interviewer prefaced his question about Neeraj Chopra with the justification that his recent interaction with the javelin thrower had been the subject of other interviews, adding that he did not want to “demean” his achievements in Paris.
Bhaker, responding to the question, said she has known Chopra for years, having first worked with him for a photo shoot in 2018. The photographer clarified that she continues to meet the athlete at tournaments and events, where they discuss his performances.
Dua continued.
“Nothing else? I was blessing your mother,” the journalist asked.
—So there’s no reading between the lines here?
Some of his subsequent questions also had little to do with Bhaker’s game, his achievements or his sporting career, past, present or future.
It is worth noting that Dua asked the 22-year-old to choose between the Emily in Paris show and “courting someone at the top of the Eiffel Tower.”
