After starting the shooter with questions about her Lost Bronze Trifecta and what went on behind Bhaker ending India’s 12-year medal drought, Dua took the interview to its “trivial and awkward” part.

The interviewer prefaced his question about Neeraj Chopra with the justification that his recent interaction with the javelin thrower had been the subject of other interviews, adding that he did not want to “demean” his achievements in Paris.

“Your photos went viral with the one Neeraj…I’m not sure if you consider it a compliment, but of course you are one of the most attractive and beautiful women in Indian Olympic history. Was there any kind of chemistry or do you prefer to consider it as a moment where someone clicked?” Dua asked.

Bhaker, responding to the question, said she has known Chopra for years, having first worked with him for a photo shoot in 2018. The photographer clarified that she continues to meet the athlete at tournaments and events, where they discuss his performances.

Dua continued.

“Nothing else? I was blessing your mother,” the journalist asked.

—So there’s no reading between the lines here?

Some of his subsequent questions also had little to do with Bhaker’s game, his achievements or his sporting career, past, present or future.

It is worth noting that Dua asked the 22-year-old to choose between the Emily in Paris show and “courting someone at the top of the Eiffel Tower.”
