Indian wrestler Vinesh Phogat has given another update on her future after returning to Delhi from the Paris Olympics. Vinesh, who had retired from wrestling after the disappointment of the Paris Olympics, has hinted at a possible comeback to the sport after seeing the love from her fellow Indians on her return home.

Vinesh returned to India on Saturday and was given a warm welcome by his supporters at Delhi’s IGI airport. At the airport, he met fellow wrestlers Sakshi Malik and Bajrang Punia and Congress MP Deepender Hooda before collapsing.

“As I have received love from my fellow Indians, my people and my family members, I guess I will get some courage to heal this wound. Maybe I can fight again,” Vinesh told the gathered crowd.

She said she is not sure about her future. “I just want to say that not winning the Olympic medal is the biggest wound in my life. I don’t know how long it will take me to heal this wound. I don’t know if I would continue fighting or not, but the courage I got today (Saturday) I want to use in the right direction,” she added.

The wrestler has had a tough time on and off the mat. She missed out on a gold medal after being found to be 100 grams overweight on the day of her final.

Vinesh also protested against the then head of the Wrestling Federation of India, Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, for his alleged sexual harassment of female wrestlers. “Our fight is not over and will continue and I pray to God that the truth prevails,” she said.

The wrestler had announced her retirement from the sport after missing out on a historic medal at the Games. She had appealed to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) but was denied the joint silver. She had recently written an open letter hinting at a possible comeback.

“There is so much more to say and so much more to tell but words will never be enough and maybe I will speak again when I feel the time is right,” Vinesh wrote in her post on X. “On the night of August 6th and the morning of August 7th, all I want to say is that we did not give up, our efforts did not stop and we did not give up but the clock stopped and time was not fair.

“That was my fate. My team, my fellow Indians and my family feel that the goal we were working towards and what we had planned to achieve is unfinished, that something can always be missing and that things may never be the same again.”

Vinesh also admitted that she could have played till 2032 under different circumstances. The dejected fighter ended the letter by saying that she would continue to fight for what is right.

“Maybe under different circumstances I could see myself playing until 2032, because the fight and the wrestling in me will always be there. I can’t predict what the future holds for me or what awaits me on this next journey, but I’m sure I’ll always continue to fight for what I believe in and what’s right.”
