What should the Rakhi or protective thread be like?
- The Rakhi should be made of three threads.
- The threads should be red and yellow.

What to do with Rakhi after Raksha Bandhan?
After the festival, on Janmashtami, the Rakhi should be removed and placed near a tree or dipped in water. The Rakhi should never be thrown away carelessly.
