Rahul Gandhi slams Modi govt over UPSC lateral entry, calls it ‘robbery of rights’: ‘Prime example SEBI…’

Rahul Gandhi, leader of the opposition in the Lok Sabha, has slammed Prime Minister Narendra Modi for calling for UPSC lateral entry jobs to fill 45 posts in different central government ministries. The Congress leader took to X (formerly Twitter) to claim that PM Modi was favouring recruits with Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) affiliations.

‘SEBI’s best example’

Rahul Gandhi also reiterated his jibe over the Adani-Modi merger. Gandhi said that Prime Minister Modi was hiring “representatives of a few corporations” for “top positions” in the Indian government. He said, “A clear example of what representatives of a few corporations will do while occupying key positions in the government is SEBI.”

Rahul Gandhi was referring to the latest salvo by US-based short-selling firm Hindenburg Research claiming that SEBI Chairperson Madhabi Puri Buch and her husband Dhaval Buch has “bought stakes in shady offshore funds” used in the “Adani money-laundering scandal.”

‘Theft of rights’

Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge earlier described the move as a “deliberate attempt” to marginalise SC, ST and OBC communities from crucial government roles.

UPSC announces 45 lateral entry posts

The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) on Saturday announced recruitment for 45 posts (10 Joint Secretaries and 35 Directors/Deputy Secretaries) to be filled through lateral entry mode on contract basis.

Vacancies in different Ministries/Departments based in New Delhi will be filled on contract basis for a period of three years (extendable to five years based on performance) through the website. https://www.upsconline.nic.in for September 17th.

These posts are typically held by officers from the all-India services (Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Indian Police Service (IPS) and Indian Forest Service (IFoS)) and other Group A services, among others.
