Weather forecast: IMD issues orange alert for northeastern states | India News

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for several states in India, including West Bengal, Nagaland, Mizoram and Tripura. Apart from these states, heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected in Bihar, Chhattisgarh and several parts of southern India. The northwestern states, particularly Uttar Pradesh, are also on alert, with forecasts predicting heavy and sustained rainfall for the next 5 to 7 days.

Commenting on the forecast, IMD scientist Dr Naresh Kumar said, “We have issued an orange alert for today and tomorrow in West Bengal, Nagaland, Mizoram and Tripura. Very heavy rainfall is forecast in these areas. Heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected in Bihar, Chhattisgarh and southern peninsular areas… In north-western states like Uttar Pradesh, heavy rainfall is forecast in the next 5-7 days… Light rainfall is expected in Delhi NCR…”
Meanwhile, rain lashed several parts of Delhi on Sunday afternoon, bringing some respite to the humid weather conditions.

“Rain will ease in Delhi from August 17 onwards. There is a possibility of light rain today and tomorrow, and the rain is likely to stop by the day after tomorrow. After that, it will start raining again,” IMD scientist Soma Sen told ANI on Saturday.
