La Liga: Real Madrid did not start their title defence well, as Mallorca drew 1-1 with Los Blancos at the Estadio de Son Moix in Spain. Vedat Muriqi’s second-half header cancelled out Rodrygo’s early goal, which ended up ruining Kylian Mbappé’s debut in the top flight of Spanish football. Madrid started well with the same line-up that Carlo Ancelloti used, with which his team won the UEFA Super Cup days earlier, when Brazilian forward Rodrygo scored a curling goal for his team in the 13th minute.

Without Mbappé and Bellingham, Vinicius was arguably Real Madrid’s only weapon against a disciplined Mallorca defence. But the Brazilian eventually lost his cool and was mocked by the home fans every time he touched the ball.

On Sunday he had several heated exchanges with his rivals and was reprimanded by the referee after staring into the stands as if daring the fans to shout at him even more.
Real Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois made three fine saves to maintain the visitors’ lead but was powerless to stop Muriqi’s powerful header from a corner in the 53rd minute that levelled for the home side.
Vinicius’ struggles and Mallorca’s equaliser frustrated Real Madrid from then on. They only really threatened twice with similar moves from Mbappe, who ran down the left flank on counterattacks, but his angled shots were turned away by an inspired Dominik Greif in the Mallorca goal.
