Rinku Singh He was one of the players who seemed destined to be named in one of the Duleep Trophy for the next edition of the tournament but was ignored by the selectors. The left-handed batsman played unofficial Test matches for India A earlier in 2024 and it looked like he would be given another chance to make it to the Test squad.
The selectors picked 60 players for the tournament but there was no place for Rinku. The left-handed batsman reacted to being ignored from the premier national tournament and highlighted the reason for his absence.
“Nothing… I didn’t play very well (in the national season). I didn’t play many games in the season Ranji Trophy“I played two or three matches. I was not selected because I did not play very well. I might be selected for the next round matches,” Rinku told Sportstak.
He played three matches in the Ranji Trophy season and scored 128 runs at an average of 42.66. Since he became part of Team IndiaRinku could not play all the Ranji Trophy matches. Rinku has scored 3173 runs in 47 first-class matches at an average of 54.70. His tally includes 7 centuries and 20 half-centuries.
Rinku may still end up playing in the tournament as India’s Test players will leave for the Test series against Bangladesh after the first round. Players like Shubman Gill, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Sarfaraz Khan, KL Rahul, Rishabh Pant, Dhruv Jurel and others will not play the full tournament. Rinku may be called up after the first round.
India captain Rohit Sharma and former skipper Virat Kohli were also expected to take part in the tournament but were rested. The senior duo will return to the field on September 19.
The Duleep Trophy 2025 will be played from September 5 to 22. The highest-ranked team at the end of the tournament will be declared the winner.
