Following this, Twin City Police Commissioner Sanjeev Panda revealed at a press conference here on Saturday that the mastermind behind this whole affair is Bangladeshi national Asdur Zaman. Zaman was the in-charge of Raju Mandal, the accused in this case, who was arrested in this case.

His job was to ensure that UPS, Internet, electricity and other services were functioning properly. In case of any problem with the SIM, Mandal would come to the house and carry out necessary repairs and maintenance. Mandal said that the SIM box was used to prevent international calls from Pakistan, China and the Gulf countries. It had said that the real culprit of accused Raju Mandal is Bangladeshi national Asdur Zaman. Zaman arrived in India in October via Agartala and Bhubaneswar. He returned to Bangladesh in December.

Panda said the investigation revealed that the SIM boxes were secretly smuggled into India from Bangladesh. Apart from this, it was also revealed that Zaman had been making payments to Mandal in return. Panda had said that SIM boxes are mainly used for cyber crimes, hate messages, terrorist activities, extortion and other crimes. This hides the original numbers and thus creates problems for law enforcement agencies.
