Sanjay Roy, accused in a rape and murder case in Kolkata, to undergo a lie detector test

Calcutta: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) will conduct the polygraph (lie detector) test on accused Sanjay Roy in the Kolkata rape and murder case. The court has directed the central investigating agency to conduct the lie detector test at the earliest.

Following the psychological test of Sanjay Roy, the accused will now also undergo a lie detector test (polygraph test).

Earlier, a team of psychological and behavioural analysts from the Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL) in Delhi conducted a psychological test on a rape and murder accused in Kolkata.

The federal agency also questioned Dr Sandip Ghosh, former principal of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, where the incident took place, in connection with the alleged rape and murder of the junior doctor.

The agency had brought Ghosh in for questioning on Friday and the questioning continued till 1:40 am on Saturday.

The body of the 31-year-old junior doctor, who was allegedly raped and murdered inside the seminar room of the state-run hospital, was found on August 9. Roy, a civic volunteer, was arrested in connection with the incident.

The victim’s parents had filed a petition in the Calcutta High Court seeking a judicially-supervised probe into the case. Other public interest litigation (PILs) were also filed demanding a CBI probe into the incident.

A preliminary autopsy report indicated that the victim had been sexually assaulted and murdered. She was reported to be bleeding from her eyes, mouth and private parts. She also had wounds on her left leg, neck, right hand, ring finger and lips.

Kolkata Police arrested Roy (33), who joined the force as a civic volunteer in 2019. Police have alleged that the accused was married at least four times and was a known “womanizer”.

The accused, who is a trained boxer, had become close to some senior police officers over the years, following which he was transferred to the Kolkata Police Welfare Board and posted at the police post at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital.
