Doctor murder in Kolkata: Resident doctors in Maharashtra have decided to continue their indefinite strike in protest against the rape and murder of a woman doctor in a government hospital in Kolkata. At the same time, their organisation has demanded that all medical colleges and government hospitals be declared safe zones. The government should immediately implement the Central Health Protection Act. The Maharashtra Resident Doctors Association (MARD) is on strike since August 13. As part of the ongoing protest on the Kolkata issue, on Monday i.e. today, doctors will tie Rakhi with government officials, college administrators, police, security personnel, nurses and health workers.

MARD has issued a statement in this regard. It says: The decision to tie Rakhi is not merely symbolic. This is a direct challenge to the system to protect our doctors and medical students from violent mob attacks. We are united in expressing our outrage over the case of the resident doctor from Maharashtra and demanding action. This is not just a demand for justice. This is a way to draw the attention of the government for immediate and uncompromising security reforms.
