Dissatisfied Congress MLA Zeeshan Siddiqui attended Ajit Pawar’s rally and criticised Rahul Gandhi

Maharashtra Congress MLA Zeeshan Siddiqui on Monday participated in the Nationalist Congress Party’s (NCP) Jan Samman Yatra under the leadership of Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar. Siddiqui also slammed Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for his ‘love shop’ statement.

Siddiqui’s father and former MP Baba Siddiqui had recently quit the Congress and joined the Ajit Pawar-led party. Zeeshan joined the yatra in the afternoon when it reached his constituency Bandra East.

Ajit Pawar appreciated ‘Maji Ladki Bahin’ plan

He praised the Mahayuti government’s ‘Maji Ladki Bahin’ scheme for women. Attacking the Congress, Zeeshan said that his party does not invite him for programmes or meetings.

Addressing the NCP rally, Zeeshan said, “We have faced a lot of injustice. Whatever good work is being done here (Bandra East constituency) is due to the support of Ajit Dada and others. We were doing our job with patience and dedication, but if someone questions our honesty, we should be able to stand up and respond appropriately.

Taking a dig at the Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi said opening a ‘love shop’ is not enough, but there must be love in the heart.

Zeeshan Siddiqui welcomed Ajit Pawar

Maharashtra Congress unit president Nana Patole has indicated that appropriate action will be taken against Zeeshan.

Earlier, Zeeshan Siddiqui told reporters that he took the responsibility of welcoming the Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra as the rally passed through his constituency. Expressing his support for the government’s ‘Majhi Ladki Bahin’ scheme, he said it will greatly benefit many women in the state.

Zeeshan accused the Congress of ignoring him, alleging that he was not invited to attend the justice rally organised by Mumbai Congress chief and party MP Varsha Gaikwad.

The Bandra East MLA said, “The Congress has started distributing nomination papers to candidates. However, when my representative contacted the party, he was denied the nomination papers. For me, the message is clear. However, I am determined to contest the upcoming assembly elections.

Some people have started considering themselves more important than the party – Zeeshan

Responding to Zeeshan’s comments, Patole said some people have started considering themselves more important than the party.

He said: “The Congress is not powerless but some people who are emerging in the party now have started believing that they are more important than the party. The Congress national president and Maharashtra in-charge will come to Mumbai tomorrow (for Rajiv Gandhi’s birth anniversary) and we will brief him about it.

Patole said necessary action will be taken against Zeeshan. Last month, during the Legislative Council elections in the state, six Congress MLAs had conducted a “cross-voting”. There was talk that Zeeshan Siddiqui was among those six MLAs.
