J-K assembly polls: ’Deviating people,’ says BJP slamming NC’s pre-poll promise on Indo-Pak dialogue

The Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) has slammed the National Conference (NC) after promising encouraging dialogue between India and Pakistan in its manifesto for the upcoming assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir.

Vice President of North Carolina and former Premier Omar Abdullah published the party manifesto which includes 12 guarantees during an event at a hotel in Srinagar on August 19. The three-phase elections for Jammu and Kashmir, 90 members The assembly will begin on September 18.

BJP leader and former Deputy Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir Kavinder Gupta Gupta criticised the NC for favouring dialogue between India and Pakistan. He accused the party of misleading the people.

“Even today, they are misguided people. This is the way they exploit people and spread nepotism and terrorism. Holding talks with Pakistan is also not their prerogative. The people of Jammu and Kashmir now have a better understanding of security, unity and integrity and will not be carried away by the politics of freebies,” Gupta was quoted as saying by news agency ANI.

The NC manifesto mentions “encouraging dialogue between India and Pakistan”.

“We said that we would encourage it (dialogue between India and Pakistan)… We have always been in favour of dialogue, and in the future also we will continue to be in favour… As a responsible party, and being in the government, we will do everything in our power to encourage such dialogue… What is wrong in encouraging a dialogue?” Abdullah said at the manifesto launch event.

Jammu and Kashmir is set to hold its first assembly elections in a decade to elect a government after more than six years of central rule.

Voting will take place inthree phasesThe first round will take place on 18 September. The next two rounds will be held on 25 September and 1 October. The results will be announced on 4 October.

Gupta also accused Farooq AbdullahThe party, led by General Abdullah Abdullah, has given the lie to the people and highlighted the security and unity seen in Kashmir since the abrogation of Article 370. “They have nothing to say. How are they going to release the prisoners and restore Article 370?” he asked.

The NC manifesto said the party “will strive to restore 370-35A, and the statehood prior to August 5, 2019′, and ‘will prioritize the release of political prisoners and young people who have been unjustly detained in prisons’.
