What Javed said
In the third episode of the documentary series, when Javed Akhtar was asked about the failure of his first marriage, he said: “Honey is the only person in the world I feel guilty about. And she is the only person. About 60 or 70 people are responsible for the failure of that marriage. If I had had as much understanding as I have today, maybe things wouldn’t have gone so wrong. It’s very difficult to accept. But that’s how it is.”

Meanwhile, Javed’s second wife, actress Shabana Azmi, continued to reflect: “In any relationship, which is a triangular relationship, it is very personal and very painful, especially when there are children involved. It becomes more painful because people are very quick to judge and say ‘she is a home-wrecker’, ‘she is a home-destroyer’ and things like that. Obviously, I wanted to explain my point of view but then I thought if I did, I would end up hurting too many people. So the wisdom was in keeping quiet and not explaining myself and taking the flak that I would obviously get. And I give a huge credit to Honey because she could have easily filled the children with stories against me. She just didn’t do it. She gave them the assurance that they don’t have to consider her an evil stepmother. She and I have a very warm and really nice relationship.”
Javed Akhtar was married to former child artist and writer Honey Irani, with whom he has two children, Farhan Akhtar and Zoya Akhtar. Their relationship disintegrated around 1980. Javed fell in love with Shabana Azmi and they married in 1984.
