Woman called ‘unprofessional’ for wearing shorts to job interview; viral post sparks debate

A woman making the rounds on the internet claims she was sent home after a job interview because of her choice of attire. The woman wore shorts to the interview, which employers deemed “unprofessional.”

However, in her TikTok video, the woman, Tyreshia, expressed her frustration and defended her outfit choice.

Tyreshia claimed that before the interview she was given the option to change and come back, but she refused. “The recruiter rejected me for this!” she wrote in the overlay, showing the outfit that led to her being sent home.

“They put a dress code on me for an interview,” she explained in the video. “They decided to reschedule the interview for tomorrow. But before that, the lady asked me if I wanted to change and come back. I said no,” Tyreshia said in her viral post.

Her video garnered more than 34 million views on TikTok and X (formerly Twitter). The post quickly sparked an online debate.

While some users defended her choice saying: “That’s literally professional attire; I don’t see the problem.”

“What’s appropriate for the office and what’s appropriate for an interview are different. She just learned that lesson,” wrote one X user. “Don’t wear shorts to an interview people. What are we doing?” said another.

Another user noted: “I’m more concerned about why she thinks this is okay to the point of making a video about it.”

However, another user defended her choice saying: “I don’t know, I’ve seen skinnier, paler people wear outfits like this without a problem.”
