Rakhi business expected to be worth Rs 12,000 crore: Praveen Khandelwal

CAT National General Secretary and Chandni Chowk MP Praveen Khandelwal said that in view of the rising demand for Rakhis, Rakhi business worth around Rs 12,000 crore is expected this year. Last year it was around Rs 10 billion, in the year 2022 it was around Rs 7 billion, in the year 2021 it was Rs 6 billion, in the year 2020 it was Rs 5 billion, in the year 2019 it was Rs 3,500 crore and in the year 2018 it was Rs 3 billion.

CAT National Vice President Brijmohan Aggarwal said that special types of Rakhis have also been made this year from famous products from different cities of the country. These include Khadi Rakhi made in Nagpur, Sanganeri Rakhi in Jaipur, Beej Rakhi in Pune, Woolen Rakhi in Satna in Madhya Pradesh, Bamboo Rakhi made from tribal items, Tea Leaf Rakhi in Assam, Jute Rakhi in Kolkata, Silk Rakhi in Mumbai, Kerala. These include Date Rakhi, Moti Rakhi in Kanpur, Madhubani and Maithili Art Rakhi in Bihar, Soft Stone Rakhi in Pondicherry, Flower Rakhi in Bengaluru etc. while Tricolour Rakhi showing the pride of the country, Rakhi of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam, Rakhi of Bharat Mata etc. which were in huge demand. Apart from this, designer rakhis and silver rakhis also sold well in the market.
