Hyderabad City: Former Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh Jagan Mohan Reddy Reddy is under scrutiny for alleged extravagant spending on snacks during his tenure. A heated exchange has erupted between the ruling TDP and the YSRCP over the expenses incurred by Reddy’s office. The TDP claims that the Prime Minister’s Office (CMO) spent a staggering Rs 3.62 crore on egg puff pastry in the last five years.
Reports suggest that the CMO’s annual expenditure on these snacks averaged INR 72 lakhs, which is equivalent to a daily consumption of 993 egg bites. Over the entire five-year period, this amounts to 18 lakh egg bites. These revelations have raised serious concerns about possible misuse of public funds during the Reddy administration.
The problem arose when the TDP government headed by Chandrababu Naidu The government has launched a thorough investigation into the financial irregularities of the previous administration. The “scrambled egg scandal” has heightened political tensions in the state. During Jagan’s tenure, other controversies had already fuelled debates, including excessive spending on his security, construction of Rushikonda Palace and use of special planes and helicopters for personal purposes.
However, the YSRCP has dismissed these allegations as false propaganda. YSRCP supporters alleged that the “inflated eggs scandal” is a deliberate attempt by the TDP to damage Jagan and the party’s reputation. YSRCP supporters termed the latest controversy as “fake news” and further alleged that the previous TDP government spent Rs 8.5 crore on snacks for former chief minister Chandrababu Naidu and his son, Lokesh, between 2014 and 2019.
The TDP was quick to respond, calling the YSRCP’s allegations baseless and false. The TDP’s social media wing took to various platforms to debunk the claims, accusing the YSRCP of spreading fake news to distract attention from the real issue of Jagan Mohan Reddy’s alleged financial mismanagement.
