Popular Bengali actress and former Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Mimi Chakraborty, who has been at the forefront of protests following the horrific rape and murder of a junior doctor in Calcuttashared her ordeal on X, after she was threatened with rape on social media. Mimi posted screenshots of the threats made to her in Bengali and also tagged the DCP (Cyber ​​Crime) of Kolkata Police.

She wrote in the caption: AND WE ARE DEMANDING JUSTICE FOR WOMEN RIGHT? These are just a few of them. Where rape threats have been normalised by poisonous men masquerading in the crowd saying they support women. What upbringing and education allows this?

In 2020, a taxi driver was arrested for allegedly making lewd comments and objectionable gestures towards Mimi.

She was returning home in the evening in her car when the incident occurred near Gariahat-Ballyganj Phari area when she was travelling to her residence in south Kolkata from the gym.

According to police officers, the taxi overtook their car and made some obscene remarks to the actress. She immediately stopped the taxi driver midway and informed the police.

Mimi The driver lodged a written complaint at the Gariahat police station after which he was identified as Laxman Yadav and arrested. Police said the driver hailed from Anandapur near the EM bypass.

Mimi ended her political career earlier this year by announcing her resignation from the Lok Sabha. She said, “Politics is not for me. You have to promote someone here (in politics) if you are helping someone… Besides being a politician, I also work as an actress. I have the same responsibilities. If you join politics, you get criticised whether you work or not.”

“I have faced several obstacles while serving people. People like me who always draw attention on social media find it easy to abuse us. I have served people during Cyclone Amphan and COVID by visiting slums and helping people with my fund,” he added.

Mimi Chakraborty won the Jadavpur seat in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.
