Decathlon India Store: Decathlon will invest 100 million euros in India to expand the store network and strengthen local manufacturing

New Delhi: French sporting goods retailer Decathlon On Wednesday a investment of 100 million Euros or around 933 crores in India in the next five years to expand its network of storesimproving Digital Engagementvalue chain, logistics and strengthening of its local manufacturing.

The aim is to open 10-15 stores each year to reach the target of 190 stores in 90 cities and towns in the next five years. Decathlon currently operates 127 stores in 50 markets in India.

“We also have a plan to produce more in India and reach 85% of the total production volume (for India). In the next three to five years, we want to double our size in terms of revenue in India,” said Sankar Chatterjee, CEO of Decathlon India.

Currently, 60% of products sold in India are manufactured there. The sports brand aims to increase this proportion to 85% by 2026, making India a major manufacturing hub. India accounts for 8% of Decathlon’s global production.

India is among Decathlon’s top 10 countries in terms of revenue contribution, with approximately €500 million.

Chatterjee said Decathlon has a single-digit supply from Bangladesh, but it is not very significant. He said they are watching the situation there but did not react immediately. The company had lost three weeks of supply. “We have a sourcing team within India that always creates a plan for multi-sourcing, which means that even though we have a dependency, we try to mitigate it. As of now, we do not see a strong situation that can disrupt our supply chain due to the Bangladesh situation. But at the same time, we are looking at the future impact of the situation that the country is facing. So, as of now, we are not changing any plan. I think the country is getting back on track in terms of factories opening, staff operating and exports. But we need to keep looking at what needs to be done in the future,” Chatterjee added. The brand aims to reduce carbon emissions by 48% for the next three years.
