Faridabad: President Droupadi Murmu India on Wednesday said it is ready to face the challenges posed by the fourth industrial revolution and seize the opportunities arising from it.
Addressing the fifth convocation of JC Bose University of Science and Technology in Faridabad, Murmu said technology should be used for proper and sustainable development and public interest.
Today, the world is in the era of the fourth industrial revolution. India is also ready to face the challenges of this revolution and seize the opportunities arising from it, he said.
To achieve this national goal, the role of institutions like JC Bose University of Science and Technology will be very important, he said.
The rector noted that in recent years the university has signed agreements with numerous industrial and academic institutions. Many multinational companies have also established Centres of Excellence on the university campus to train students.
Today, several avenues of progress have opened up thanks to the development of technology, he said.
For example, Internet access in remote areas has created online employment opportunities, but we must remember that technology must be used for proper and sustainable development and for the public interest. Its misuse can be disastrous, he said.
The President praised the university for playing an important role in developing skilled and self-reliant young people.
The President said that the university is named after the great scientist and pioneer of modern science Jagadish Chandra Bose, who was probably the first scientist in the world to scientifically prove that even trees and plants have feelings.
Her groundbreaking discovery changed the way we view the botanical world, the president said, urging students to draw inspiration from her life and bring about positive change in society through technology.
The call was chaired by the Haryana Governor and university chancellor Bandaru Dattatreya.
The President awarded 13 doctoral degrees and presented two medals and certificates to the students.
A total of 1,536 students and researchers who completed their studies in 2023 obtained their degree, including 998 bachelor’s degrees, 525 postgraduates and 13 PhDs.
The beneficiaries included 874 male students and 662 female students.
With 43 percent of students who earned their degree being women, Murmu praised the significant representation of women and expressed hope that the ratio would improve further.
The President praised the university’s efforts to promote research, including the introduction of the JC Bose Award for Young Scientists and provisions for raising seed capital for research.
Murmu said the new National Education Policy focuses on promoting research and a scientific approach, with emphasis on holistic education, inclusion of research and internships in postgraduate courses and establishment of the National Research Foundation to promote quality research.
The rector praised the university’s initiative to implement the PNE and provide an education aligned with its objectives.
He also acknowledged the Institution’s contribution in empowering youth and making them self-reliant for over five decades and highlighted the impressive list of alumni who excel in various fields and support students financially and through mentoring.
Speaking at the event, Dattatreya praised the significant participation of women researchers in the call, highlighting their growing presence and contributions in the field of technology.
He highlighted the crucial role that technology plays in elevating the country’s position in the global technological landscape.
Vice-Chancellor Sushil Kumar Tomar said the university currently offers over 60 diverse courses, reflecting its commitment to holistic education.
He said the university has taken proactive steps to implement the NEP, which will come into effect from the academic year 2023-24. This includes a special focus on fostering research work, encouraging start-ups, promoting innovation and enhancing placement activities, he said.
