GSTAT will have a principal court in Delhi and 31 state courts at various locations across states.
“He Department of Revenue (Insect), Treasury “Applications have been invited for appointment to the posts of Judicial Members, Technical Members (Centre) and Technical Member (State) in the Principal Tribunal and State Tribunals of GSTAT,” an official release said.
The minimum age to apply is 50 years (as of the last day of application) The salary is Rs.2.25 lakhs (fixed) per month. All other allowances and conditions of service (DA, medical etc.) will be the same as those applicable to Central Government servants drawing the same pay.
The deadline for submitting applications is March 31.
The government will appoint the members on the recommendations of a search and selection committee. The committee may call the shortlisted candidates for personal interaction, if it deems necessary and suitable. The committee will recommend a panel of suitable candidates, on the basis of an overall assessment, to the government for making the appointments. In December last year, the Lok Sabha had passed a bill to increase the age limit of the chairman and members of the GSTAT. Taxpayers who are litigating GST claims in various high courts or the Supreme Court will be free to withdraw their cases and approach the GSTAT once the courts start functioning.
The bill seeks to limit the age of the GSTAT chairman and members to 70 and 67 years.
A lawyer with 10 years of “substantial experience” in litigating indirect tax matters in the Appellate Tribunal would be eligible for appointment as a judicial member of GSTAT.
