Suspected monkeypox patient admitted to Delhi’s AIIMS: Sources

New Delhi: A suspected monkeypox patient was admitted to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Delhi on Wednesday after developing Mpox symptoms following his return from a trip abroad. Reports said the person had mild fever and headache along with other symptoms of monkeypox. The patient has been kept in AB-7 ward at AIIMS, a specially designed ward for suspected Mpox patients.

Doctors at the ward are said to have tested him for monkeypox and the test result was negative. However, the patient is still under observation.

An AIIMS official said that arrangements have been made to admit and test suspected monkeypox patients at AIIMS. One person was brought to the hospital with symptoms of monkeypox. All tests were conducted and the report came out negative. This means that there is no confirmed case of monkeypox at AIIMS at present.

The official added that beds have been arranged for monkeypox suspects in AB-7 ward of AIIMS. Fever, headache, backache, fatigue, chills and boils on the body are the symptoms of monkeypox and a patient with all these symptoms will be considered as a suspect. If the report is positive after the test, the patient will be referred to Safdarjung Hospital for further treatment.

The government has put all resources on alert in the face of the threat of spread of monkeypox. Beds have been arranged for the treatment of monkeypox patients in three hospitals in Delhi. Airport officials have been asked to remain alert and have been instructed to isolate anyone showing symptoms of monkeypox. Special arrangements have also been made for beds in various hospitals. Meanwhile, health workers have been directed to treat and care for the patient with personal protective equipment.

Experts said there is also a danger of monkeypox in India and citizens should remain alert. People are advised to go to the hospital as soon as symptoms of this disease appear. In this case
