KTR vs CM Revanth Reddy in Telangana over farmhouse: ‘I will accompany you to demolish it’

Hyderabad City: A farmhouse, allegedly built illegally in a protected area, has become the latest flashpoint between the ruling Congress government and former state minister and Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) KTR’s working president in Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy claimed that the property was actually owned by KTR and not by realtor Pratap Reddy Badvelu, an allegation the BRS leader denied both in court and outside it.

KTR said the farmhouse belongs to a friend. “I rented it eight months ago. If it is in the full tank zone (FTL) or the buffer zone, I will accompany you to demolish it. I am happy to demolish it,” he said.

Challenging HYDRAA to act against Congress ministers and leaders, KTR claimed that senior Congress leaders have allegedly built farmhouses in buffer zones. “HYDRAA does not have the courage to demolish farmhouses of big Congress leaders built on lakes,” KTR claimed.

KTR claimed that the cottages of Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy, KVP Ramachandra Rao, MLC Patnam Mahender Reddy, Council President Gutta Sukhender Reddy and Congress leader Madhu Yashki are being built in similar areas under FTL.

In April 2022, Revanth Reddy, then Congress MP, had approached the National Green Tribunal (NGT), alleging that the farmhouse was illegally located in the GO 111 area, which is part of the protected reservoirs of Osman Sagar and Himayat Sagar.

A case has been filed against Revanth Reddy for allegedly flying a drone over the farm and filming videos that were later posted on social media, NDTV reported.

The NGT set up a joint committee to inspect the site and submit a report. In response, Pradeep Reddy approached the High Court requesting it to set aside the NGT orders.

Revanth Reddy founded HYDRAA soon after becoming Chief Minister.

HYDRAA is tasked with removing encroachments and illegal constructions in the GO 111 area. It was established to plan, organize, coordinate and implement urban disaster preparedness and prevention measures, to coordinate with other state and national agencies for prompt response and rescue operations in any disaster or catastrophe situation that may arise in the region.

The Chief Minister is the chairman of the governing body.
