Rourkela. Dengue is spreading rapidly in Sundergarh district. Especially in Rourkela, dengue is becoming severe. The situation in the steel town of Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) is more worrying as compared to the Rourkela Municipal Corporation (RMC) area. Out of the total cases in the district, 74.47 per cent cases are found in urban areas of RSP only. Talking about the total cases in Rourkela city, 90 per cent of the patients found are residents of different areas under RSP. Meanwhile, there is also information about the death of a 73-year-old man from Jagda area during treatment. The elderly man was undergoing treatment at Ispat General Hospital after contracting dengue. However, till the time of writing this news, there has been no official confirmation from the IGH management.

Areas in the sector become hot spots, 534 cases were found

According to information, the number of dengue cases in the district has risen to 717. Of these, 584 are from Rourkela (both RMC and RSP) while the remaining 133 are from the rest of the district. Of the total 584 people from Rourkela, a maximum of 534 people are from different sector areas of RSP while the remaining 50 people are from RMC area. Areas from various sectors have now become hotspots. The highest outbreak has been detected in Sector-1, Sector-14, Sector-15, Sector-16, Sector-19, Sector-21 while more cases are being found in Railway Colony, Chhend, Gopabandhupali, Jheerpani and other areas. In the last month alone the number of cases has increased significantly. The number of infected in July was 110. But since the beginning of August, there has been an unexpected rise.

1007 samples were analyzed in 19 days of August, 181 patients were found

In July 2024, a total of 442 samples were tested at Rourkela Government Hospital (RGH), out of which dengue was detected in 70. However, in the tests conducted between August 1 and 19, the number of infected is higher. In the last 19 days, a total of 1,007 samples were tested at RGH. Of these, 181 people have been reported to be suffering from dengue. RSP has been issuing regular guidelines on the comprehensive measures being taken to control dengue, but the general discussion is that the number of infections is increasing and not decreasing because there is only pen and paper.
