Amid strong rumours about a possible cabinet reshuffle headed by him later on Thursday, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin said he has not received any such information.
“I have not received any,” was the CM’s cryptic response, accompanied by a smile when journalists asked him about “some information” he was receiving about a possible restructuring of his cabinet.
On Thursday, media circles were abuzz with the possibility that the cabinet could be reshuffled to remove some names and accommodate some new ones, ahead of the CM’s tour of the US next week to drum up investments for the state.
There has also been talk of elevating Stalin’s son and Minister for Youth Welfare and Sports Development Udhayanidhi to the post of Deputy Chief Minister, though the prime minister recently said the time was not yet ripe for such a move.
There has been a growing chorus in the ruling DMK in favour of Udhayanidhi’s elevation, ahead of the next Assembly elections in the state, scheduled for 2026.
Replying to a question on Union Minister L. Murugan’s claim that the recent function to mark the launch of a coin commemorating the birth centenary of late DMK president M. Karunanidhi was organised by the state government, Stalin said, “The Tamil Nadu government organised the event which was under the control of the central government.”
During his visit to the United States, he said that several meetings were planned and that the “results” would be communicated to the media later.
