KEY POINTS

  • India will play Australia in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy starting November 22.
  • It will be a series of 5-match tests.
  • Mohammed Shami is expected to return from injury.

India will perhaps face their toughest test under Gautam Gambhir when they travel to Australia for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, where they will play the Pat Cummins-led side in a five-match Test series. It will be a massive series as the two top-ranked teams in Test cricket will face each other. India will also be looking to win their third consecutive Test series in Australia and retain the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. For that, Rohit Sharma and Gautam Gambhir need to lead a team that can challenge the reigning world Test champions.

Yashasvi Jaiswal and Rohit Sharma are the automatic choices for the opening slots. Jaiswal has proven to be a sure shot in the longest format of the game. Shubman Gill will come out in his usual position of No. 3, with Virat Kohli and KL Rahul following him at No. 4 and No. 5. Sarfaraz Khan started his Test career with a bang in the series against England and India will keep him as a back-up batting option.

The two wicketkeeper-batsmen who will travel to Australia are Rishabh Pant and Dhruv Jurel. While Pant is the first choice, Jurel will act as a backup.

Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin will be India’s first-choice spin bowling duo in Australia. Kuldeep Yadav will also join the squad to bring variety to their left-leg spin bowling attack.

Mohamed Shami He is expected to be fully fit for the series against Australia as according to several reports, the BCCI is grooming him with an aim to make him ready for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Jasprit Bumrah is being rested at the moment but will surely return to the bowling attack against Australia. Mohammed Siraj will be the other pace player in the bowling attack. While it may seem like an odd choice, Shardul Thakur can be picked by India due to the extra batting option he provides further down the order, apart from his pace.

The Indian team that will participate in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024

Rohit Sharma, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, KL Rahul, Rishabh Pant, Ravindra Jadeja, Sarfaraz Khan, Shardul Thakur, Ravichandran Ashwin, Dhruv Jurel, Mohammed Shami, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, Kuldeep Yadav
