A five-storey residential building collapsed in the Pal area of ​​Surat city in Gujarat on Saturday. Seven people were killed in the accident. NDRF inspector Babulal Yadav said that information was received about the collapse of a five-storey building. We were told that some people were trapped under the debris. Seven bodies have been recovered so far. One person has also been evacuated and is alive. We cannot say how many more victims are trapped, but the death toll may rise.

Surat DCP Rajesh Parmar said the rescue operation has been underway for the last 12 hours. One woman has been rescued and 7 bodies have been recovered and sent for post-mortem. We are clearing the debris.

The incident occurred on Saturday afternoon at around 2.45 pm. The building was constructed in 2016-17. The commissioner said that around five apartments were occupied by people, most of whom were factory workers in this area. When rescue efforts began, screams of the trapped people could be heard. Surat district magistrate Saurabh Pardhi also reached the spot to supervise the rescue operation being carried out by the police, fire brigade, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF).
