Strict action must be taken against officials involved in money laundering: Dr Banerjee

Correspondent, Calcutta

Doctors from several medical colleges across the state are on strike after stopping work over the rape and murder of a young female doctor at the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. On Thursday, members of the All India Federation of Government Doctors’ Associations (AIFGDA) met the protesting junior doctors at the RG Kar Medical College. Later, a press conference was held at the hospital by the Joint Platform of Doctors.

At this conference, senior member of the organisation Prof. Dr. Utpal Banerjee said that we do not want to interfere in the movement of young doctors. If the young doctors want, they can continue the strike. The organisation has demanded security for doctors, health workers and patients in all medical colleges and health centres across the state.

Questions also arose about the autopsy:

The joint coordinator of the organisation, Dr. Punyabrata Gun, said that an attempt was made to suppress this massacre from the very beginning. He also raised doubts over the post-mortem of the victim. He said that the post-mortem of the victim was conducted by doctors of the same hospital where the doctor was murdered. A junior post-mortem expert from NRS Medical College was also included in this team. Why was the post-mortem of the victim not conducted in any other medical college in Kolkata? He has also demanded that some junior doctors from the hospital should look into this matter. Apart from this, Dr. Sushant Rai, Dr. Abhik De, Dr. B. Vishwas, Dr. Shayamapad Das and Dr. Sudipta Rai from North Bengal have also been asked to be questioned.
