Bengaluru CEO sparks outrage with post on ‘Brahmin genes’; netizens question anti-reservation stance
A Bengaluru-based businesswoman, who has been vehemently vocal about her concerns over caste-based reservations in a recent social media post, shared a controversial picture of her flexing her muscles and captioned it “Brahmin genes.” Meanwhile, in her bio on microblogging site X, Anuradha Tiwari has written that she believes in the motto “One Family, One Reservation.”
The Bengaluru-based CEO and TEDx speaker had earlier expressed her frustration over the matter, stating that despite scoring 95%, she was unable to get admission, while her classmate who scored 60% was admitted. “I am a general category student. My ancestors have bequeathed me 0.00 acres of land. I live in a rented house. I could not get admission despite scoring 95%, but my classmate who scored 60% and hails from a wealthy family got admission. And you are asking me why I have a problem with reservation?” Tiwari wrote in a post dated August 2022.
Tiwari also asked the general category to come together within five years, warning that failure to do so could lead to reservations in the private sector as well.
However, her recent post on “Brahmin genes” did not go down well with netizens, who criticised her. The post has garnered over 1.3 million views so far.
Netizens accused her of being a casteist and urged her to reconsider her stance. Supreme Court lawyer Shashank Ratnoo commented: “That is precisely why the caste system is still there! Being fit is good, but attributing it to superior or specific genes is not the way to build a family, an India.”
Another user commented: “While flaunting his caste, he is fighting against reservations. How typical.”
One X user pointed out: “According to Manusmriti, girls should stay at home all the time, take care of their husbands and do nothing else. But because of the Constitution, you are flaunting your triceps on Twitter and living life your way. So go ahead and thank Babasaheb Ambedkar for that!”
Another user echoed this sentiment, saying, “To whom do we owe our ability to exercise and live life on our own terms? To Dr. Ambedkar (both the Constitution and the Hindu Code Bill) and a host of other progressive voices over the decades.”
