The tourism industry has requested the state government to announce a policy for the sector before the three-day Rising Rajasthan Investment Summit begins in Jaipur on December 9.
Investors will consider the sector if a policy is announced before the summit, industry executives said. Surendra Singh Shahpura, a senior member of the Rajasthan Hotel Federation, said the state is famous for heritage tourism.
“In all the investment summits held in the state so far, a large amount of investments have gone into the tourism sector. In such a situation, the government should launch the tourism policy before the summit. The benefit of this will be that the policy will be in the sight of the investors and after going through it, they can easily invest in the tourism sector of Rajasthan,” Shahpura said.
Investors will be introduced to the government’s facilities and subsidies for tourism investments. “We have already submitted many proposals to the government on tourism policy. We need government subsidies for rural tourism, which will create jobs. Only through rural tourism can we stop the migration of people from villages to cities,” he said.
The government should pay attention to historical monuments in rural areas. It should facilitate the processes of obtaining licenses for hotels, land conversion and building planning.
“Our most important demand is that all budget hotels operating across the state, mainly in residential areas, be regularised,” said Kuldeep Singh Chandela, president of the Rajasthan Hospitality and Tourism Federation.
Tourism in Rajasthan should be promoted at international fairs and markets. The government should allocate a budget for the maintenance of monuments. Tourism policy should take into account forests and ecologically sensitive areas, Chandela said.
Sanjay Kaushik, who runs a travel company, said the policy should consider tour operators and support them with easy financing and low road taxes for commercial vehicles.
