Director Nag Ashwin’s visionary film, `Kalki 2898 AD` created a storm at the box office, breaking several records and setting new benchmarks in the Indian film industry. The genre-breaking film cemented its place in the hearts of critics and audiences alike with its ingenious blend of sci-fi and Indian mythology, reigning supreme as the highest-grossing Indian film of 2024 so far. After witnessing an unparalleled run on the big screen, this cinematic spectacle has just released on Prime Video today in the original language, Telugu, with Tamil, Kannada and Malayalam dubbing, and with English subtitles. Despite boasting of powerful performances by a star-studded cast, the legendary Amitabh Bachchan stole the show with his commanding presence and exemplary portrayal of the immortal Ashwatthama. Nag Ashwin shares, “I think Bachchan was, is a legend and he was extremely kind in the patience he had with us as a team and as a very young team, we were actually trying to achieve something that usually someone of his generation wouldn’t be very comfortable with, with so much CG, so much green screen, but he was extremely kind and patient with the whole process, he would come and sit and wait while we worked it out. Some things took longer than planned and his experience, especially in the action portions, I think that reflects on screen, which is why people enjoy it so much.”
`Kalki 2898 AD` marks the first installment of the Kalki Cinematic Universe. Set in the year 2898 AD, the film is set in the now barren Kashi, considered to be the world’s first city. Amidst a dystopian era ruled by the Supreme Yaskin, SUM80 emerges as a dawn of hope as the bearer of Lord Kalki, the tenth and final avatar of Lord Vishnu, putting Yaskin’s reign in jeopardy. But the big question still remains – can SUM80 protect her life with the help of Bhairava, Ashwatthama, and a motley crew of Shambhala rebels? Or will she fall prey to Yaskin’s mysterious Project K?
