Gen Z embraces technology: 73% are willing to use AI-powered travel planners, survey finds | Personal Finance

India’s Gen Z travelers, those born between 1995 and 2010, are budget-conscious and blend technology and tradition. Nearly 70 percent are likely to travel with family and most are willing to use artificial intelligence (AI) to plan their itinerary, according to a study by Booking.com.

“With 65 percent of India’s population under the age of 35, it’s critical to understand the travel sentiment of Gen Z travelers as they are redefining the way we experience the world,” said Santosh Kumar, Country Manager for India, Sri Lanka, Maldives and Indonesia at Booking.com.


AI takes center stage

Up to 73 percent of Gen Z travelers will use AI-powered travel planners to plan their itinerary, and 68 percent rely on technology to recommend “off-the-beaten-track” destinations. Additionally, 76 percent look for technological amenities in their accommodations, such as robotic services or AI-enabled touchpoints. Up to 35 percent of Gen Z travelers look at photos taken on trips to recapture that “vacation feeling.”


Budget conscious, experience hungry

Despite their enthusiasm for travel, Gen Z is budget-conscious. 71% choose to travel during off-peak seasons to save money, and 73% actively seek out travel discounts through loyalty programs. This doesn’t mean they’re skimping on experiences: 72% express a desire to do one-of-a-kind activities like skydiving or hot-air ballooning in 2024.


Convenience and familiarity in the reservation

When it comes to booking, Gen Zers value convenience and familiarity. Nearly 70% admit to returning to accommodations they enjoyed before, and 66% look for hotels that offer reliability. Many prefer to book multiple aspects of their trip at once, and 37% are likely to book attractions and activities at the same time as their accommodation.


Solo travel on the rise, but family ties remain strong

As many as 85 per cent of Indian Gen Z travellers plan to embark on solo adventures next year, but they haven’t forgotten about family connections. The study reveals that 69 per cent are likely to travel with family members and 61 per cent with their parents.
