Also, the quality of water should be checked at regular intervals and its reports should be monitored. Apart from this, the officials of the Health Department have given strict instructions to keep a close watch on the situation, improve cleanliness, provide best medical treatment to the patients, expedite investigation and refer the patients if required.

Emphasis is placed on carrying out an awareness campaign

At the meeting, officials also asked to raise awareness among the city residents about dengue so that they can take necessary precautions. This includes instructions on how to maintain cleanliness, remove three-day-old water, proper drainage, etc.

Dengue patients are continuously increasing in the district

The number of dengue cases in Sundergarh district has crossed 717. Of these, 580 are from Rourkela (both RMC and RSP) while the remaining 133 are from the rest of the district. Of the total 584 people from Rourkela, a maximum of 534 people are from different sector areas of RSP while the remaining 50 people are from RMC area. Areas in various sectors have now emerged as hotspots. More outbreaks have been detected in Sector-1, Sector-14, Sector-15, Sector-16, Sector-19, Sector-21 while more cases have been detected in Railway Colony, Chhend, Gopabandhupali, Jheerpani and other areas. In the last month alone, the number of cases has increased significantly. Last July, the number of infected was 110. But since the beginning of August, there has been an unexpected spike. It is noteworthy that a total of 442 samples were tested at Rourkela Government Hospital (RGH) last July while 70 people were found infected with dengue. However, in the tests conducted between August 1 and 19, the number of infected is higher. In the last 19 days, a total of 1,007 samples were tested at RGH. Of these, 181 people have dengue.
