The death toll has risen to 27 and 16 others were injured after a bus carrying dozens of Indian pilgrims veered off a key highway and crashed on Friday in NepalAn Indian tourist bus, carrying pilgrims mostly from Jalgaon district of Maharashtra, had veered off the road into the Marsyangdi river at Ainapahara in Tanahun District.
According to Tanahun district chief Janardan Gautam, the death toll now stands at 27 following the completion of the search operation.
“The death toll has now risen to 27 after the search operation in the Marsyangdi river was concluded. The bus was carrying 43 passengers and 16 injured have been rescued and are undergoing treatment at various hospitals,” Gautam confirmed to ANI over phone.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Girish Mahajan said: “41 people have died in Nepal after the plane plunged into a river… We have also contacted the Embassy in Delhi… 12 people have been shifted by the Nepal Army to hospital… We don’t have the exact number… We are in continuous contact… I have also interacted with the Chief Minister.”
The Indian tourist bus with registration number UP 53 FT 7623 veered off the road and fell into the river. Some of the injured were taken to Kathmandu by a Nepalese army helicopter.
The bodies will be flown to Maharashtra today.
According to the Maharashtra Chief Minister’s Office, the bodies of all those who died in Bus accident in Nepal The bodies will be returned to Maharashtra today. The Prime Minister’s Office confirmed that Indian Air Force aircraft will bring them back.
Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, who also heads the disaster relief and rehabilitation department, has been in touch with Union Home Minister Amit Shah and other officials in Delhi and has also appointed a nodal officer to coordinate the return of the bodies of the devotees to Maharashtra at the earliest. Due to the intervention of Union Home Minister Amit Shah, arrangements have now been made for an Indian Air Force aircraft to transport the bodies from Uttar Pradesh to Maharashtra on Saturday.
According to the official, the bodies of the deceased are now with the Aabukhaireni Municipal Council and identification of the bodies is underway. The bus was heading to Kathmandu from Pokhara when it met with an accident.
