Tim Walz Harris is under fire after social media users posted videos apparently showing the Democratic vice presidential nominee “aggressively” pulling his son at the Democratic National Convention. The video, from the Minnesota governor’s acceptance speech on Wednesday, has drawn criticism, mainly from Trump supporters who espouse MAGA stances. The Harris-Walz campaign has yet to react to the controversy.
Walz’s family was visibly emotional as Harris’ running mate accepted the Democratic nomination on Wednesday. His son, Gus, was in tears and appeared to say, “That’s my daddy!” as he pointed at the Minnesota governor on stage. Tim Walz’s wife, Gwen, and his son and daughter Hope joined him on stage to celebrate.
However, several social media users posted videos claiming that Walz had thrown his son onto the stage. “Why did Tim Walz forcefully throw his son on stage like that?” one person asked on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter.
“As the father of an autistic son, I give parents of special needs children a little grace. These are invisible challenges. However… that attraction of Walz for no reason (?) and the face he makes despite knowing he’s on national television is mind-blowing,” added another person on the platform led by Elon Musk.
“Pray for Gus Walz“He clearly has a disability, and seeing Tim Walz pulling him around like that on the DNC stage, in a way that seems abusive, makes me feel even worse for him. Imagine how he treats him behind closed doors when no one is watching,” a third tweeted.
Gus is a high school senior. Tim and Gwen Walz recently revealed that he suffers from nonverbal learning disorder, ADHD, and an anxiety disorder.
