Cognizant vs Infosys in US court: US software firm Cognizant TriZetto has filed a lawsuit against Indian technology giant Infosys in a federal court in Texas, accusing Infosys of stealing confidential information related to its health insurance software.
This comes eight months after Infosys sent a letter to Cognizant accusing the US-based IT firm of unfairly hiring its employees. However, Infosys has denied all the allegations levelled by Cognizant TriZetto, a subsidiary of its Teaneck-based rival, in a Texas federal court.
New Jersey-based Cognizant, which has 70% of its employees in India, alleges that Infosys illegally extracted data from its databases and used the information to develop and market competing software.
Cognizant’s software includes TriZetto’s Facets and QNXT, which are used by health insurance companies to automate administrative tasks. According to Cognizant’s complaint, Infosys misused TriZetto’s software to create “test cases for Facets,” which improperly repackaged TriZetto data into an Infosys product. Notably, the companies are locked in a close fight even in the marketplace, with both companies approaching $20 billion in revenue.
Cognizant has asked the court to award an unspecified amount in monetary damages and issue an order directing Infosys to stop misusing its trade secrets. Also, you might be surprised to know that Cognizant CEO Ravi Kumar S is an Infosys veteran, having served as its President and Deputy COO for over nine years, a period that will end in October 2022.
Just two years before this saga, Cognizant had appointed Rajesh Varrier to replace former Cognizant India President and Managing Director Rajesh Nambiar, who will take over from October 1, 2024.
