Badalpur case: Raj Thackeray hints ‘political motivation to defame government’

Terming the Badalpur case as an unfortunate development, MNS chief Raj Thackeray said, “Such incidents will not stop unless a strict law is enacted.”

Thackeray said: “The Badalpur case It is a real shame. Until a strict law is passed, such incidents will not stop. How many years had to pass for the accused in the Nirbhaya case in Delhi to be punished? What should be done if there is such a delay in a case? These incidents happened even during the time of those who called for a strike.Maha Vikas Aghadi). They are still happening today. Cases of harassment of women are coming to light one after another in the media. Is there any politics behind this? It is being done to defame the government now that elections are approaching…”

A massive protest broke out in Badlapur town in Thane district on Tuesday after a large number of people blocked railway tracks and ransacked the school, where two kindergarten girls were sexually abused by an attendant last week. The protesters demanded severe punishment against the accused, who was arrested on August 17. The state government on Tuesday ordered the suspension of three police officials, including a senior police inspector, for alleged dereliction of duty in investigating the sexual abuse of the two girls.

Nana Patole, President of Maharashtra Congress On Wednesday, he criticised the Eknath Shinde-led Mahayuti government for playing “politics” over the incident.

“The government itself is playing politics in this (Badlapur) incident. The state with the highest crime rate against children is Maharashtra. There have been 21,000 such incidents in the state and the government is covering it up. We have called for a strike in Maharashtra on August 24,” Patole told reporters.

Meanwhile, Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Nirupam assured people that the Maharashtra government has condemned the incident and the accused will be punished soon.

“We are here after the agitation that broke out yesterday… We are here to assure the people that our government stands with them and we condemn this incident… A SIT has been formed to investigate the matter and we are also trying to get the accused punished at the earliest,” Nirupam said.
